TradeGecko hosted the 1st Shopify Meetup in Hong Kong on Thursday, 23rd November 2017. It was a full house with great discussions, networking, food and drinks with like-minded eCommerce businesses.
Duncan Tang, the CEO of Chic Workshop, kick started the evening by introducing their business as a listed Shopify expert and web design studio which was founded in Hong Kong in 2006 by a small group of professionals with passion for what they do. They believe in quality over quantity and specialize in creating attractive design, mobile optimized, user friendly experiences, SEO websites and Shopify eCommerce stores. In addition, they also provide full creative, design and development services.
Jessica Yeung, Head of Business Development at EasyShip, the experts in international shipping, were up next and talked about how shipping was one of the main four barriers to cross border sales. This is due to the high costs of shipping, tax and customs regulations, documents and regulations, and growing customer regulations. EasyShip is the number 1 Shopify app for shipping, and integrates with all the main eCommerce stores, so you can easily import your orders, ship to over 100 courier solutions, download and print prefilled labels and track your shipments worldwide.
Akul Dewan, Partnerships Manager introduced the audience to TradeGecko, a cloud based inventory and order management software for brands and distributors. He talked about how the typical modern merchant’s challenge of trying to grow the business but instead having issues with cash flow and spending most of their time with operations, formed the inspiration for founders Cam, Brad & Carl to start TradeGecko.
Managing cash flow is a huge problem which is caused by not managing inventory, warehouses or customers correctly. TradeGecko provides a better way to manage your inventory through stock forecasting, backordering, stock management, shipping / accounting / eCommerce integrations with their B2B payment solution.
Fireside chat with Tiny Bitz, Hazel & Hershey Coffee Roasters, and Herb’s Oil educating the audience about their eCommerce businesses, how they got started and what the biggest challenges were during their initial growth period. All three companies have chosen Shopify as their eCommerce technology so it was interesting for the audience to learn from their experiences of optimising the platform, and generally how local small businesses can use cloud services to help manage and grow their business.
The Shopify Meetup was held at Garage Society, a community for the new generation workforce. Founded in 2014, their platform offers events, an internship programme, recruitment, investment support, and more. With contemporary co-work spaces based in Hong Kong Central, Sheung Wan, Sai Ying Pun, and Wan Chai, Garage is home to international startups, creatives, freelancers & digital nomads.
